BIO

I am a researcher and  theatre practitioner with twenty years of experience, specialising in socially engaged theatre, particularly within the context of addiction recovery. My work combines creative projects and academic research to challenge societal perceptions of addiction and its recovery. Over the years, I have led numerous artistic initiatives in the UK and Greece, exploring how theatre can reshape and support addiction recovery narratives.

My monograph, Performing Recovery: Addiction, Vulnerability and the Ethics of Representation, has recently been published by Routledge. It investigates the relationship between performance, addiction, and ethics, considering how creative practices can responsibly engage with experiences of recovery and vulnerability. I am also co-editing a special issue for RiDE: Research in Drama Education titled “Vulnerability as Critical Practice,” alongside Selina Busby (RCSSD), Alexandra Halligey (Wits University), and Katharine Low (KCL), due for publication in August 2027. In addition, I am collaborating with the Everyman and Playhouse Theatres and a steering group of adults in recovery to establish a creative hub that elevates the artistic voices of people in recovery and embeds their contributions into Liverpool’s cultural life.

My research has generated new insights into the role of applied theatre in supporting individuals recovering from substance addiction. Through practice-based projects and academic publications, my work continues to deepen understandings of how socially engaged arts can challenge societal attitudes toward addiction and recovery
